Spread over 2 days in February, this treat for board game enthusiasts promises to be a blockbuster event that will bring this pop culture hobby experience to kids and adults who have never played board games before. Expect 200+ games, workshops, school, college & corporate tournaments, and the first-ever Indian Board Game Awards.
Cluedo presents Meeplecon, the only boardgame convention in India, comes back to Mumbai after 3 years on 18 and 19 February 2023 at Dublin Square, Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla. This 2-day extravaganza will feature over 200 boardgames, STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) games for kids, strategy and party games for adults, workshops in miniature painting, design & Sudoku, and a host of tournaments for schools, colleges, corporates, and participants. It will bring together new and experienced board gamers, as well as those who have never experienced the hobby.
The event organized by alumni of IIT, IIM, and Symbiosis will also feature over 20 board game publishers and exhibitors from India, along with more than 50 made-in-India games, many of which have received critical acclaim internationally.
Meeplecon 2023 will also feature India's largest Inter School & College Boardgame Tournament for students from Std 1 to 12 as well as undergraduate students.
"The previous edition of the Inter School Tournament saw over 1000 participants. This year is going to be much bigger as more and more people have become aware of the benefits of playing boardgames.", said Mohit Goel, co-founder, "We are also extending this tournament to colleges this year"
"Ironically, the pandemic prevented us from hosting Meeplecon the last 3 years, but these are the 3 years that people discovered the joy of indoor boardgames the most. We look forward to bringing everyone together to enjoy this truly immersive hobby at Meeplecon", said Mohit.
Participants can expect to discover
This year, Meeplecon will bring back its smash hit Meeplecup event that saw participants take home prizes worth over INR 30000 in the past. "Meeplecup is meant for everyone - families and groups of friends, or just strangers who haven't met before come together to compete against each other by playing giant-sized board games. The prizes are the icing on the cake!", said Prashant Maheshwari, co-founder. The event will showcase and honor board games designed and made in India in 2022 at the Indian Boardgame Awards.
"The Boardgame industry is an ecosystem in itself, expected to be worth over half a billion dollars in India alone. The industry in India is rapidly scaling up and we expect it to only keep growing this year. The last 3 years have seen Indian games being launched on international platforms like Kickstarter as well key launches by several Indian Publishers. These games have received international acclaim and we must honor them in India as well." Mohit.
